Extra assistance for those affected by extended power outages

March 23 2022

The State Government has approved a permanent increase of the extended outage payment to $120 for those eligible customers affected by extended power outages.

Customers who have already applied for and been paid $80 for an extended outage since 1 Jan 2022 will receive a $40 top-up payment automatically, meaning they will not need to re-apply.

Residential and small business customers who consume less than 50MWh of electricity a year are eligible for the payment if they experience an outage longer than 12 hours.

Usually, a claim must be made within 60 days of the outage occurring, but as part of the transition to the higher payment amount, customers have until 5.00pm on Monday 29 August 2022 to make a claim for any extended outage that has occurred since 1 January 2022.

Customers who have already made a claim for and been paid the existing $80 for an outage since 1 January 2022 will automatically be paid the additional $40 by 30 April 2022.

How to claim

It generally takes between 5 and 10 minutes to submit a claim.

Once we receive your claim, we’ll confirm that we have received it and let you know if we need further information.
