- Karratha Building Company has been awarded a $6 million contract by Horizon Power to deliver its Carnarvon depot upgrades.
- The builder will work closely with other local businesses and invest much of its budget in the Gascoyne Mid West and surrounding regions.
- The project is being delivered as a part of Horizon Power’s $75 million Renew the Regions program, and will extend the life of Horizon Power’s Gascoyne Mid West base for another 20 years.
Horizon Power has awarded a $6 million contract to Karratha Building Company to refurbish its Carnarvon depot and construct a new, purpose-built logistics building that will service the wider Gascoyne Mid West region.
The project will improve operational functionality and safety. It will also improve the experience for customers and is expected to futureproof the regional power provider’s Mid West base for the next 20 years.
Horizon Power’s General Manager Operations, Tiri Sanderson, said Horizon Power was committed to working with regional businesses that invest locally and promote regional economic activity.
“We’re pleased to partner with an organisation that is proud to invest in local people and local businesses,” Ms Sanderson said.
“Karratha Building Company has a proven track record in supporting regional economic sustainability that spans 35 years. The company is a long-time supporter of community organisations and takes pride in developing the careers of its regional employees.”
“Karratha Building Company will work with local businesses to supply services and materials for the project and is committed to spending a substantial part of its budget in the Gascoyne Mid West and surrounding regions.”
“It’s an excellent outcome and just another example of how we’re generating regional work opportunities and stimulating local economies,” she said.
Horizon Power’s presence continues to grow in the Gascoyne Mid West, making it the ideal time to improve the region’s facilities. As part of the project, the administration building will undergo a major refurbishment to provide a welcoming space for customers. The improvements to the logistics shed will mean Carnarvon can be a parts hub for maintenance works across Gascoyne Mid West towns.
The project is being delivered as part of Horizon Power’s $75 million Renew the Regions program, an initiative supported by the Western Australian Government’s WA Recovery Plan.
Renew the Regions is delivering projects across regional Western Australia aimed at creating jobs and giving towns more access to green energy and improved services.
Works for the Carnarvon depot project commenced in March and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
