Disconnect or remove power supply

Whether you’re preparing for demolition or need to switch off to complete work safely, here is how you can request that we disconnect or remove a power supply.

Are you demolishing a property and need to disconnect the power?

You can apply online to lodge a request for us to disconnect the electricity supply to your property ahead of demolition. You’ll need to submit a site plan to show your work site and the location of existing and new electrical assets.

A fee of $660.00 will apply.
All prices are correct as at 1 July 2024, include GST (except where noted otherwise), and are subject to change at any time.

If a property remains disconnected for more than six months, we will need either an Electrical Safety Certificate or a Notice of Completion from a licensed electrical contractor before the property can be reconnected.

After you have submitted your application, please allow approximately:

  • 30 business days to design and provide you with a  formal quote
  • 30 business days for you to sign the Quote Acceptance form and return it to us
  • 12 weeks for work to commence following receipt of payment

Please note: these time frames are estimates only and can vary.

Do you need to disconnect the power to safely carry out work?

If you're renovating a home, or completing other non-electrical works, you can request that we temporarily disconnect your power supply while the work is carried out.

All prices are correct as at 1 July 2024, include GST (except where noted otherwise), and are subject to change at any time.

If you have an electrician working at the property and you need to temporarily disconnect the supply, they can submit a Preliminary Notice.  This will let us know about the work being carried out so you don’t need to request a disconnection separately.

Reconnecting to the network

After a disconnection, you may need to request that we reconnect your power.

To meet our obligations under the Electrical Act of 1947: Regulation 242.1 (parts A, B & C) and make sure properties are safe for reconnection, we need all installations that have been disconnected for a time period of six months more to be tested by a licensed electrical contractor prior to reconnection.

Once this testing is complete, the electrical contractor will submit either:

These documents must state that the installation has been tested and is safe to be connected to supply and be no older than one month from the request for connection.

When we receive a compliant Safety Certificate or Notice of Completion, our team will raise a service order to reconnect the property.
