$400 WA Household Electricity Credit announced for residential customers (2022)

All Western Australian households will receive a one-off $400 (GST free) credit to reduce electricity bills – the WA Household Electricity Credit 2022 (‘HEC 2022’).

The second Household Electricity Credit will be applied by Horizon Power from July 2, saving Western Australian households $400.

The credit was announced as part of the 2022-23 State Budget to assist WA households with cost of living pressures.

Households who are not directly billed by us, such as residents of caravan parks, retirement villages, apartment buildings or communities supplied by local mining companies, will be eligible to apply for a credit via the WA Government online portal.

  • What is the HEC 2022?

    On 12 May 2022, the State Government announced that all Western Australian households would receive a one-off $400 (GST free) credit to reduce electricity bills – the WA Household Electricity Credit 2022 (‘HEC 2022’).

    The HEC 2022 is part of the 2022-23 State Budget.

    Most eligible households will not need to do anything to receive the HEC 2022 – it will appear as a credit offset on the first electricity bill sent on or after 2 July 2022.

  • I’m a Horizon Power customer – will I receive the WA Household Electricity Credit?

    On 2 July 2022, the HEC 2022 will be automatically applied as an offset to Horizon Power residential accounts that had been active at the Eligibility Date (12 May 2022).

  • What is the Eligibility Date for the HEC 2022?

    Subject to specific circumstances as set out in the HEC 2022 Terms and Conditions, the Eligibility Date for the HEC 2022 is 12 May 2022 - when the State Government announced the credit offset.

  • Can I get the HEC 2022 refunded to my bank account?


    The HEC 2022 is non-refundable and can only be used to offset your power bill.

    It cannot be transferred, except where you are moving and opening an account at a new address – in this case, you can apply for your remaining credit to be transferred to your new account.

  • Do I need to apply for the HEC 2022?

    If your Horizon Power account is eligible, you do not need to apply for the HEC 2022. It will be automatically applied to your account from 2 July 2022.

  • What if I move, or have already moved?

    If you held an eligible account on 12 May 2022, and move to a new property with a new residential electricity account before you either receive or finish using your HEC 2022 credit offset, you may be able to apply for your remaining credit to be transferred to your new account. Please contact us if this applies to you.

    If you do not apply for a transfer of unused credit to a new, eligible account by 31 December 2022, the remaining credit will be returned by Horizon Power to the WA Government.

  • I am not billed by Horizon Power - will I receive the HEC 2022?

    The State Government has advised that residential households who are not billed directly for their electricity by Synergy or Horizon Power may be eligible for an equivalent credit.

  • Will I get the HEC 2022 if I have closed my account?

    To be eligible, your residential customer account must have been open on 12 May 2022.

    If you had an eligible account on 12 May 2022, and have since closed it and opened a new residential account, please contact us to discuss your circumstances.

    If you have already closed your account but intend to open a new one in the future, we encourage you to contact us so we can assess your circumstances to see what assistance we can provide.

  • How will the HEC 2022 be applied to my bill?

    The HEC 2022 will be applied against your electricity charges prior to any other credits that may be on your account. This enables you to take advantage of the WA State Government’s support while saving any other credits you have.

  • Does the HEC 2022 expire?

    No – the HEC 2022 credit offset will remain on your account until it is fully used in reducing your power bill, or until transferred in accordance with the Terms and Conditions.
