Electrical licensing

You must be a licensed electrician to operate in Western Australia

In WA, regulations do not permit unlicensed persons to work on electrical installations. Additional conditions apply to the licensing of electrical contractors including advertising as, or contracting to perform such work.

Enquiries regarding licensing, the qualifications to work, to undertake work, and/or to contract to perform electrical work on electrical installations should be referred to Building and Energy.

Please note: Horizon Power does not support contractor connect schemes.

Keep your details up to date

It is important to ensure that both individual (electrical worker) and business (electrical contractor or in-house) licenses are correctly registered and maintained. Visit the Building and Energy website to update your details.

Preliminary and completion notices

An electrical contractor who carries out any notifiable electrical work is required to let us know through a Preliminary and Completion notice before and after the work is carried out.

All Electrical Notices are required to be lodged via the E-Notice portal, available through The Office of Building and Energy. For registration and further information, visit commerce.wa.gov.au.

Once they are lodged, Horizon Power will receive a copy of your Preliminary or Completion Notice.

To avoid project delays, it is important that all paperwork you submit to us is fully complete and compliant. Horizon Power will not accept a Completion Notice without first receiving a compliant Preliminary Notice.

Contractor registration & authorisation

You must receive approval to work not only on Horizon Power non-electrical infrastructure but also to work or near our generation and network assets.
