Horizon Power celebrates social impact with inaugural report

June 16 2025

We’ve recently published our inaugural Community Partnerships Program Impact Report for 2023/24. Created through an intern project via our partnership with CareerTrackers, the report showcases the positive impact Horizon Power’s Community Partnerships Program has had on regional and remote Western Australia.

Horizon Power, on behalf of the West Australian Government, provides $1.1 million each financial year to community initiatives and events that positively impact remote and regional communities through its Community Partnerships Program

Since 2020, the Community Partnerships Program has delivered more than $5 million in funding to support more than 560 initiatives across the State's regional and remote communities. The Program provides funding support of up to $50,000 per partnership to organisations delivering health and wellbeing outcomes in communities within Horizon Power’s service area.

Horizon Power Executive General Manager Customer & Community, Darren Hill, emphasised the importance of connection and community spirit at the heart of Horizon Power’s mission.

“Our Community Partnerships Program is not just about investment; it’s about connection. Our Horizon Power team takes great pride in seeing the real-world difference we make together with our partners.”

Key highlights from the report:

  • The program strongly supported local communities with initiatives in the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne, Mid West, Goldfields and Esperance. In 2023/24, the Gascoyne and Mid West region notably received a record number of funding applications, highlighting the increasing demand and enthusiasm for local projects.
  • Over 100 initiatives supported community involvement, 69 initiatives directly boosted local economies by prioritising local suppliers, and 56 directly supported Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Additionally, projects dedicated to improving the environment received significant backing.

Successful case studies:

Shinju Matsuri Festival, Broome

Attracted around 4,000 attendees, generated approximately $6.2 million in economic benefits, and involved 47 local businesses.

Teach Learn Grow’s Rural Program

Provided STEM tutoring for 150 students across five schools, significantly increasing students’ confidence and interest in maths.

Esperance Soccer Association

Successfully established a girls-only soccer league, significantly boosting female participation and community engagement.

The Community Partnerships Program also prioritised accessible events and projects that are free or very low-cost, ensuring broad community participation.
