Pilbara Generation Project

Shaping the next chapter of energy supply for the Pilbara.

How does the Pilbara’s NWIS work?

Horizon Power owns and maintains a portion of the NWIS in the Pilbara, known as the ‘Horizon Power Pilbara coastal network’. It includes generation, transmission, and distribution assets connecting Port Hedland and Karratha.

The network links to the NWIS and operates alongside separately owned private industry networks.

Horizon Power has existing gas-fired generation supply agreements in place with Independent Power Providers (IPPs) in the Pilbara.

What's happening now?

We're continuing work to plan for the Pilbara's future energy needs, with the priority of ensuring that coastal Pilbara communities and industry continue to have access to safe and reliable electricity from 2030, while also creating opportunities to increase renewable energy over time.

Getting future ready

Along the way, we’re working with local communities to design the kind of energy solutions our customers need - to reduce the cost of your electricity and invest in a greener future for everyone.
