Apply for a rebate

The best way to make the most of your solar power is to use as much energy as you can during the day.

If you don’t use all of the energy you generate, you may be able to export some of it to the network and sell that power back to us through one of our buyback schemes.
Your eligibility for a buyback scheme depends on a range of factors including:

Not all of our customers are eligible for buyback, so it's important to check before you apply.

Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme (DEBS)

DEBS is the most common buyback scheme. You could be eligible if you’re a residential customer or an educational, charitable or not-for-profit organisation with a small renewable energy system (such as solar) up to 5kW.

You could also be eligible for DEBS if you’re exporting energy from a home battery or electric vehicle-to-grid system, even if your system has a capacity greater than 5kW.

Horizon Power Commercial Buyback Scheme (COBS)

If you have a system which is more than 5kW in size, and live in a town where the cost of electricity generation is high, you could be eligible for COBS. You’ll need to meet special conditions and apply to be considered for this scheme. Your eligibility could also involve further commercial negotiations, especially if you have a larger system.

How do buyback rates work?

If you’re eligible for a buyback scheme, the rate you are paid per kW depends on the time of day your system is exporting energy into the network. We offer a peak and off-peak export rate during these times:

  • Peak rate: 3pm to 9pm
  • Off-peak rate: All other times
