The State Government announced, on the 4 October 2020, a one-off WA Household Electricity Credit of $600 as part of the State Budget 2020-21, to be paid to all eligible residential Horizon Power customers.

The $600 WA Household Electricity Credit will be paid to residential customers on their Horizon Power bills as a credit on bills from 1 November 2020, providing Horizon Power customers with relief on their electricity bill ahead of Christmas.

Horizon Power is pleased to announce it will deliver $5.2 million worth of renewable energy projects in Derby, which will reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as help reduce night time crime and traffic incidents through better lighting.

WA Premier Mark McGowan announced the projects as part of the McGowan Government's WA Recovery Plan.

Horizon Power is proud to announce it has formed a new partnership with the Department of Education to deliver the $5 million Solar Schools program which will provide rooftop solar systems to 30 regional public schools throughout WA.

Launched today by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery at Port Hedland Primary School, the program will install 2.1MW of solar PV, create 12 new jobs across regional WA during construction, and facilitate two new Aboriginal electrical apprenticeships.

Site works are currently occurring within the Karratha hills and along the Dampier highway for the upgrade of Horizon Power’s Karratha to Dampier transmission line.

These works will be ongoing until December 2020 and include power pole assembly, powerline stringing and cable jointing.

Horizon Power announced the appointment of Ms Ivy Chen to its Board of Directors.

Ivy is a Principal Consultant with CSA Global and is a corporate governance specialist. She has led mine geology and resource estimations teams in China and Australia.

Energy Minister Bill Johnston today announced the Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme (DEBS), which will introduce buyback payments for energy exported from eligible home batteries and electric vehicles.

DEBS also introduces higher export payments for electricity between 3 pm and 9 pm, which is when it’s in high demand for most Horizon Power customers. 

As part of the McGowan Government’s WA Recovery Plan, the Premier announced a $21 million investment in energy infrastructure projects for the Kimberley, to be delivered by Horizon Power.

Horizon Power’s Chief Executive Officer Stephanie Unwin said the Government’s announcement would enable Horizon Power to fast track a number of its energy infrastructure projects which would improve power quality, reliability and services across the Kimberley.

The Premier of Western Australia has launched WA’s Recovery Plan in conjunction with the Minister for Energy, Treasurer and the State Recovery Controller announcing a $66.3 million investment in major renewable energy technologies to support WA’s economic recovery.

Each year, the WA State Government reviews electricity tariff prices, fees and charges so they better reflect the costs of making and delivering electricity through Western Australia.

This year the WA State Government is not changing the price of the residential A2 and MyPower electricity tariffs. This is part of of a range of COVID-19 support measures for WA households, which means that the unit price and supply charge for these tariff will remain at the 2019 price.

Horizon Power has signed a gas sales agreement with Shell Energy Australia to secure gas for use in regional electricity generation.

Under the terms of the agreement, Horizon will purchase up to 4.3 petajoules of gas from Shell over a two-year period.

Krystal Skinner has been appointed General Manager Customer Experience. Krystal joins Horizon Power from Synergy where she worked across the business in a variety of roles, including innovation and growth (new energy), marketing and products and markets.

Horizon Power is working to further strengthen its relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with the launch of its Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2020-22 (RAP), which provides a framework and practical actions to drive internal cultural change in support of reconciliation.

The Government of Western Australia intends to implement a new regulatory regime governing third party access to Horizon Power’s network within the North West Interconnected System (NWIS). This will be established by the Pilbara Networks Access Code (PNAC).

Horizon Power has become aware of a design defect in a home plug-in electrical safety sensor called WireAlert supplied to local customers in the Esperance, Hopetoun and Norseman areas back in 2010, as part of an electrical fault detention safety campaign.

• Horizon Power undertaking 12-month pilot of Electric Vehicles in Esperance and Broome to learn about the vehicles, impacts on the regional energy network and test user behaviour.
• Hyundai Kona 100% electric vehicles selected due to long range driving capability – up to 449 kilometres – making them suited to driving in regional WA.

The remote community of Bidyadanga in the West Kimberley will now receive lower power bills with the successful installation of 160 kilowatts of solar on community buildings.

Horizon Power contributed to the upfront cost of the solar systems as part of its Solar Incentives Scheme that were installed on four community buildings last week.
