Eligibility to install solar and buyback schemes

Use the calculator below to determine if you are are eligible to install solar and apply for our buyback offer.

If you don't use all of the electricity you generate, we may be able to buyback the excess you export into the electricity system. We offer buyback rates for each town which reflect our cost of electricity generation and distribution in that town. Because these costs vary greatly between towns across our vast service area, the rates differ significantly also.

Buyback rates are reviewed annually and the amount payable is subject to change. We will advise you of any changes that affect your buyback rates.

It is important to note that you must receive approval from Horizon Power to install a renewable energy system even if you do not wish to participate or are not eligible to participate in our buyback offer.

Who is eligible for the renewable energy buyback offer?

  • For home
  • For business

We offer the buyback price to eligible residential customers who wish to install a five kilowatt or less renewable energy system. For systems that are over five kilowatt in size, we offer a buyback price in towns where the cost of generating electricity is high.

You must use the eligibility calculator below to determine if you are able to install a system and are eligible to apply for the buyback price. As we process applications daily, the information provided through our calculator and our website is subject to change and provided as a guide only.

Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme

The Western Australian Government pays the feed-in tariff to eligible existing customers for a period of 10 years. Installing solar in your town

For each town, we have a certain amount of capacity for rooftop solar that can be safely installed on the power system without compromising the reliability of power supplies to all of our customers. This is our Distributed Energy Target.

In some towns, a solar system can only be installed with a generation management system. Other towns have already reached their Distributed Energy Target and so we are unable to accept solar applications at this time.
