Horizon Power finalists for innovative WA tech awards

June 20 2022

Horizon Power has been named a finalist in the Innovating Government category as part of this year’s prestigious INCITE Awards for our work to improve the customer and employee experience of renewable energy connections.

Increasing renewables and decarbonising regional and remote energy systems requires smart power system analysis tools to ensure the transition occurs in a safe, reliable, efficient, cost-effective and customer-driven manner.

That’s why we had to design, build and create a whole new innovative platform that could address the complexity of managing multiple networks, capacity constraints, generation sources and future energy planning – creating a vastly improved and easier experience for customers, installers and employees.

We combined human centred design, innovative technologies and agile ways to build a new tech stack that:

  • Redefined how we assess renewable applications – combining a re-engineered and digitised back-end with a new online application experience, and
  • Delivered a geospatially centric, network planning portal for employees to access real-time assessment data, rather than taking weeks to manually assess and process paperwork.

With increased visibility, improved data accuracy and the removal of manual processes – we’ve accelerated the renewables assessment process including auto approval of applications 5kW or less.

Congratulations to the other Innovating Government finalists Marble Bar Primary School and Department of Education, Brightpath Assessments, and WA Country Health Service.
