What is GreenSelect?
GreenSelect is Horizon Power’s green energy purchasing option. GreenSelect is a simple way for you to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase demand for renewable energy and assist in the further development of renewable energy in regional Western Australia. By choosing GreenSelect, Horizon Power is able to purchase renewable energy on your behalf. This energy replaces power that would otherwise need to be created from fossil fuel sources.
What are my options?
With Horizon Power’s new GreenSelect payment options, you can request that energy equal to either 50 or 100 per cent of your electricity consumption to be generated from a renewable source such as wind or solar energy.
What does it cost?
GreenSelect only costs an extra 5.5 cents per unit including GST. The GreenSelect charge is added as a separate item on your normal electricity bill and will be charged based on the units of electricity you have used for that billing period.
Example of GreenSelect cost (GreenSelect 100%):
If your average annual consumption is 6,470 units*,
the equivalent amount would be generated from renewable sources.
Your annual GreenSelect charge for the year ahead would be:
6,470 units x 5.5 cents extra per unit = $355.85
You would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 5,176kgCO2, which is similar to the amount of carbon dioxide produced from running an average family car for a whole year.

How does it work?
When you switch to GreenSelect we guarantee that an amount of energy equivalent to the energy you use (based on your choice of GreenSelect 50 or 100 per cent) will come from renewable sources generated in WA, and be delivered as part of our overall electricity mix within the Horizon Power service area in WA.
Horizon Power will purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) equal to your GreenSelect energy use from renewable energy generators, which helps stimulate future demand for renewable energy. The RECs Horizon Power buys for GreenSelect are above and beyond any RECs Horizon Power is required to buy under mandatory renewable energy targets.
GreenSelect renewable energy is sourced from various renewable energy generators within the Horizon Power service area in WA.
Can I still have GreenSelect where there are no renewable generators?
Even if you live in an area where there are no renewable energy generators, you can still have GreenSelect. We ensure that an amount of renewable energy equivalent to your GreenSelect usage is purchased within regional Western Australia. The environmental benefits are the same as if the renewable energy were delivered directly to you.
