This new customer service code has been developed to protect customer interests by regulating the behaviour of retailers, distributors and marketers in Western Australia.
You can view a copy of the Code here.
The Code, effective from 1 January 2005, applies to all Western Australian customers who consume less than 160 MWh of electricity per year. It covers both contestable customers (using 50-160 MWh per year) and non-contestable customers (<50 MWh).
The Code coincides with further competition in the electricity market and with new electricity suppliers competing against Horizon Power. It covers electricity marketing, connection, billing, financial hardship, disconnection, reconnection, pre-payment meters in remote communities, information and communication, customer service charters, dispute resolution and record keeping.
The new Code, developed in consultation with industry and consumer groups, has been enforced by the Economic Regulation Authority.
