Priority power restoration for critical customers

Release Date: 27 January 2010

Organisations providing critical services to the community can apply to be registered as a critical customer, to assist in managing the impact of power interruptions on the services they provide to the community.

Together with customers using life support equipment that runs on electricity, major hospitals, emergency services and sewerage treatment plants are just some examples of the types of organisations that can apply to be classified as critical customers.

Organisations classified as critical customers will assist Horizon Power to better manage power interruptions and to allow the continued provision of critical services to the community.

Horizon Power’s Manager of System Operations, Paul Elliott said Horizon Power is keen to work with the community to ensure critical customers are captured on the list.

“Horizon Power understands the important role that critical organisations play in providing services to our community.

“Registering with Horizon Power is one way that will allow us to mitigate the impact of power interruptions on these organisations,” he said.

Application forms to be classified as a critical customer are available from the Horizon Power website, www.horizonpower.com.au under the business section or by telephoning the business customer service centre on 1800 737 036.

Customers on life support who have not registered for the life support equipment subsidy and priority list should visit the Horizon Power website, www.horizonpower.com.au or telephone the residential customer service centre on 1800 267 926.

In the event of planned power interruptions, Horizon Power will notify customers at least three days before the power interruption is due to take place to ensure alternative arrangements can be made.

Given the current cyclone season in the north of Western Australian, Horizon Power would like to remind customers to have their own cyclone readiness plans. Helpful tips on being cyclone ready are available on our website www.horizonpower.com.au .
