Changes to Electricity Prices

The State Government recently announced an increase to retail electricity tariffs, making the price of electricity more in line with the cost of supplying it.

The tariff increases will come into effect on 1 April 2010 and 1 July 2010. The percentage increase that will be applied to each tariff band is listed below.

L4 Medium/Large business tariff 7.5% 10.0%
M2 Large business (high voltage, high use) tariff 7.5% 10.0%
N2 Government regional non-interconnected system tariff No increase to supply charge. Electricity charge continues to be adjusted quarterly
P2 North West Interconnected System Commonwealth and Foreign Government Agencies tariff 7.5% 10.0%
W2 Traffic lights tariff 3.5% 0.0%
Z Street lighting tariff 7.5% 10.0%

The average weekly cost increase for residential consumers will be $4.13 from 1 July 2010, with small businesses experiencing an average weekly increase of $7.29 from 1 July 2010.

The State Government has announced that more than $16.8 million will be available through rebates and hardship assistance measures. Payments provided through the Hardship Utilities Grant Scheme will increase from $380 to $408 from April 1 and $450 from July 1. Rebates will increase in line with the tariff increases.

Information on the tariff increases and energy saving initiatives will be sent to Horizon Power customers prior to 1 April 2010. Further information will also be available on our website over the coming weeks.
