FeNaClNG Festival

Karratha came alive on August 5 and 6 for the FeNaClNG Festival, the town’s biggest entertainment event of the year. Featuring bands, displays, stalls and the ever-popular sideshow alley, the festival is a big hit with Karratha locals.

The name of the festival comes from the natural resources rich in the Pilbara Region, Fe (iron), NaCl (salt) and NG (natural gas), so the event has an industrial flavour. This year’s festival was bigger than ever, with thousands of people making their way through the exhibition area featuring displays not only from industry but local community groups and government.

Horizon Power was also on display, for the first time as a stand-alone business, and staff were there to provide information about the new organisation the benefits it offers WA’s regional residents. There was also a Horizon Power quiz, with a Plasma Ball for the winner, but the big drawcard had to be the Van Der Graph generator in the stall, producing static electricity that put everyone’s hair on end.

The festival culminated in a fire works display on the Sunday night, followed on centre stage by Australian band Toby, brought to the festival by Horizon Power, and James Reyne.

Horizon Power’s community relations manager, Evette Smeathers, said the festival had been a roaring success and the band really capped off the event.

“We were so happy that we could bring Toby to Karratha, their distinct style of music suited the family audience, and made for an evening of listening pleasure,” she said.
