Horizon Power in partnership with Transfield Services is upgrading the distribution network in rural areas surrounding Esperance, including Hopetoun and Norseman, to improve the reliability and quality of service to customers.
The project will replace ageing infrastructure, including power poles, power lines and associated equipment. The upgrade of this infrastructure will also minimise the common risk of pole-top fires and clashing wires that can lead to bushfires.
Over the course of the project, Horizon Power and Transfield Services will inspect more than 23,000 power poles extending over 3,000 km of the network to ensure they comply with new regulatory and safety requirements.
The project will cost $12 million over four years.
To kick-start the project, representatives of Horizon Power and Transfield Services made a presentation at the Farmers Federation AGM on 15 February 2007. Further information on the project is available in the following newsletter.
