Horizon Power crews are responding to widespread damage in the Pilbara region as a result of Cyclone George. While generation capacity has not been affected by the severe cyclone, extremely destructive winds have caused significant damage to the distribution network in Port Hedland and surrounding areas.
Power supplies to Port Hedland have now been restored. In conjunction with local electrical contractors, remaining individual customer faults are being repaired.
Damage to the areas of Wedgefield and South Hedland is far more extensive, and will require more time to be repaired. While good progress is being made, some areas remain without power. Horizon Power crews are currently working with electrical contractors to repair customer-owned installations before power can be reconnected safely. Some properties still require the service of local electricians before Horizon Power can carry out further work.
We regret the inconvenience to our customers for power outages, and assure the Port Hedland and South Hedland communities that we are working tirelessly to restore supplies.
Customers without power, should contact our Response Centre on 13 23 51.
