Horizon Power Celebrates First Birthday

Horizon Power Managing Director, Rod Hayes said looking back at Horizon Power’s first year of operation was a proud moment.

"We’ve dealt with cyclones, the failure of the Ord Hydro plant in the East Kimberley and we’ve endured the perfect storm in Esperance – and through these build a stronger, more interactive relationship with our customers," he said.

"In facing these challenges we’ve consistently engaged with our customers and stakeholders, working on building our credibility and earning their trust – and that’s something I’m very proud of," Mr Hayes said.

Horizon Power’s first year of operation saw the commissioning of new power stations at Exmouth and Warmun; the launch of a multi-million dollar network upgrade in Esperance and the normalisation of power supplies in a number of Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley.

During the year Horizon Power broke through the 10% renewable energy barrier for sent-out electricity and began the process of installing new renewable generating plant in Coral Bay and Hopetoun.

The creation of Horizon Power also saw the opening to the public of customer service centres in six regional locations and the deployment of senior managers into regional offices.

"It’s been a big year,” Mr Hayes said.

"We’ve focussed our attention on building credibility with our regional stakeholders and we hope we’ve started to build a reputation based on our actions.

"But I think the biggest achievement of Horizon Power, over the past 12 months, is not that we’ve changed the way people think about us - it is that we’ve changed the way we think about ourselves, our role and the contribution we have to make in this State," Mr Hayes said.

“We’re looking forward to becoming a bigger contributor to the development of regional communities across the State.

“Regional WA is booming and we’re proud to be a part of it,” he said.

Horizon Power thanked its customers and stakeholders in regional WA for the support they have demonstrated for the business over the past year.
