Changes to electricity tariffs

The State Government recently announced an increase to retail electricity tariffs. The tariff increases will come into effect on 1 April 2009 and 1 July 2009.

The percentage increase that will be applied to each tariff band is outlined below.

Tariff 1 April 2009 1 July 2009
A2 (Residential) 10% 15%
L2* (Small business) 5% 10%
L4 (Medium/large business) 10% 10%
K2 (Residential/small business) 10%  15%
M2 (Large business high voltage high use) 10% 10%
P2 (North West Interconnected System Commonwealth and Foreign Government Agencies)  10% 10%
C2 (Community Service) 5% 10%
D2 (Charitable Accommodation) 5% 10%
Z (Street Lighting)  15% 15%

* L2 customers who consume 50 MWh or more per annum will be transferred to a new tariff band, called the L4 tariff. Customers to whom this applies will be contacted by Horizon Power.

Electricity prices are being increased to bring the price of electricity more in line with the cost of supplying electricity to Western Australians.

Horizon Power remains committed to working with customers to promote energy efficiency. Horizon Power will commence its Betterways campaign in the coming months to inform customers of energy efficiency measures that can be implemented to effectively reduce energy costs and reduce personal greenhouse emissions.

Further information on the tariff increases and energy saving initiatives will be provided to Horizon Power customers with their next electricity account.
