Wind energy is harnessed in the towns of Esperance, Denham, Exmouth and Hopetoun. The use of this "free" natural resource offsets the amount of fuel used to provide power to our customers in these towns and also reduces the amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
Due to the success of wind farms in Western Australia, a projects is currently underway to increase the size of the Hopetoun wind farm with an additional turbine. A new 3 turbine wind farm is also proposed for the settlement of Coral Bay.
Further information on our windfarms is available here.
Wind energy is a renewable resource which has several benefits.
This wind farms generate about 22% of Esperance's electricity.
Denham is a unique wind/diesel system which allows new equipment to be tested with the wind farm and a diesel generator.
This wind farm produces about 120 MWh of electricity annually.
The wind turbine is expected to supply aproximately 42% of the town's electricity requirements per annum.
