GreenSelect is a simple way for you to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase demand for renewable energy and assist in the further development of renewable energy in regional Western Australia.
By choosing GreenSelect, Horizon Power is able to purchase renewable energy on your behalf. This energy replaces power that would otherwise need to be created from fossil fuel sources.
What are my options?
With Horizon Power’s new GreenSelect payment options, you can request that energy equal to either 50% or 100% of your yearly electricity consumption is generated from a renewable source such as wind or solar energy.
What does it cost?
GreenSelect only costs an extra 5.5 cents per unit including GST.
How does it work?
When you choose GreenSelect the amount of renewable energy generated on your behalf is calculated on your total energy consumption for the year prior. Your preferred GreenSelect amount for the year ahead (50% or 100%) will be calculated for you and confirmed by letter. This amount is split into two equal payments and invoiced separately to your normal electricity account. This amount is billed separately so you know exactly how much extra you are paying to create energy generated from a renewable source.
Example: GreenSelect 100%
If your annual consumption for the 12 months prior was 6470 units, the equivalent amount would be generated from renewable sources.
Your annual GreenSelect charge for the year ahead would be:
6470 units x 5.5 cents extra per unit = $355.85
You would receive an invoice for half this amount when you sign up for GreenSelect, and half six months later.
Can I still have GreenSelect where there are no renewable generators?
Even if you live in an area where there are no renewable energy generators, you can still have GreenSelect. We ensure that an amount of renewable energy equivalent to your GreenSelect usage is purchased within regional Western Australia. The environmental benefits are the same as if the renewable energy were delivered directly to you.
