Horizon Power is committed to reducing the level of emissions from its power generating plants. As an outcome of the Regional Power Procurement Program, new environmentally friendlier power stations have been constructed in regional towns by Independent Power Producers.
In some towns, such as Esperance and Exmouth, the new power stations use cleaner fuel, natural gas, which reduces the amount of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
The Greenhouse Effect is essential for maintaining the earth's surface at a temperature suitable to support life.
The Kyoto Protocol is a United Nations initiative for the reduction of greenhouse gases.
To demonstrate a responsible Australian approach to greenhouse management in the lead up to the Kyoto negotiations, Prime Minister Howard announced a package of measures for greenhouse gas abatement in November 1997.
The State Renewable Energy Policy promotes the use of electricity from renewable energy sources.
Horizon Power is a member of the Greenhouse Challenge Plus administered by the Australian Greenhouse Office.
