Deregulation means that energy generators and retailers are able to compete with Horizon Power to sell and supply electricity to Western Australian domestic and business customers if they wish to do so. The new market provides for competition in the generation and retailing of electricity in a similar way to that experienced with the telecommunications market. As a result, you may now able to choose the energy retailer you buy electricity from.
Deregulation means you may now be able to choose your electricity retailer if you use more than 50 megawatt hours per year at a single site (single distribution exit point).
Roughly this equates to a daily average consumption of around 137 or more units per day. Your daily average consumption figure is located on the front page of your Horizon Power bill.
Typically, if you spend more than $8,000 each year on electricity at a single distribution exit point then you may be able to choose your supplier of electricity.
No. Only customers using more than 50MWh per annum from a single distribution exit point are eligible to choose their retailer.
Essentially this is a single point in the electricity network where electricity is supplied to a customer. Most customers only have a single point of supply to their premise, but there are some other customers that may have electricity supplied from different points in the network.
In the above example all three sites represented three businesses each consuming 60MWh per annum and each has a single bill account. Sites 2 & 3 each have two meters on site and their load is shared evenly (30MWh each).
