As part of the Government's approach to consumer protection, it will be establishing minimum requirements for contracts. Essentially there will be two types of contracts - standard and non-standard.
A standard form contract will be the basic type of contract offered by retailers. It will contain a minimum set of standards outlined in the Customer Code (see the Question: What controls retailers' behaviour? under Regulation and Consumer Protection).
A non-standard contract differs from the regulated terms and conditions of the standard form contract. Customers opting for a non-standard contract agree in writing to the contract. For customers below 160MWh per annum, a non-standard contract will have to comply with minimum standards.
