
In April 2006, an independent regional power corporation, Horizon Power, was created by the separation of Western Power into four stand-alone businesses.
The changes were part of the State Government's reform of the way that electricity is generated, distributed and retailed in Western Australia.
Separating Western Power created four specialist businesses that are able to focus on their area of expertise.
Horizon Power is owned by the State Government and has its own Board that reports to the Minister for Energy.
Horizon Power services the Pilbara, Kimberley, Gascoyne, Mid West and southern Goldfields (Esperance and Hopetoun) including about 28 towns and isolated communities. It is responsible for generating or procuring, distributing and selling electricity.
Horizon Power is committed to improving the quality and reliability of regional power supplies and pursuing innovative energy solutions. Horizon Power will focus on meeting the needs of regional customers.
It will support economic growth and community development in rural and regional Western Australia, locating its headquarters in a regional centre. By re-opening depots and locating senior staff in regional centres, the business will be responsive to local issues. Senior staff includes:

Horizon Power is owned by the State Government and has its own Board that reports to the Minister for Energy. The Minister appoints the Chairperson and members.
Horizon Power has published its first annual report for the period 1 April - 30 June 2006 and also has published the 2005/2006 Network Quality & Reliability of Supply annual report.
Horizon Power is a statutory corporation established by the Electricity Corporations Act 2005 (WA).
To keep our customers and stakeholders informed of new developments at Horizon Power, we publish a newsletter on a regular basis.
Horizon Power has a number of power projects underway to improve the reliability and quality of power supply to customers.
Horizon Power officially launched on 24 March 2006.
