power station

In April 2006, an independent regional power corporation, Horizon Power, was created by the separation of Western Power into four stand-alone businesses.

The changes were part of the State Government's reform of the way that electricity is generated, distributed and retailed in Western Australia.

Separating Western Power created four specialist businesses that are able to focus on their area of expertise.

Horizon Power is owned by the State Government and has its own Board that reports to the Minister for Energy.

What does Horizon Power do?

Horizon Power services the Pilbara, Kimberley, Gascoyne, Mid West and southern Goldfields (Esperance and Hopetoun) including about 28 towns and isolated communities. It is responsible for generating or procuring, distributing and selling electricity.

Horizon Power is committed to improving the quality and reliability of regional power supplies and pursuing innovative energy solutions. Horizon Power will focus on meeting the needs of regional customers.

It will support economic growth and community development in rural and regional Western Australia, locating its headquarters in a regional centre. By re-opening depots and locating senior staff in regional centres, the business will be responsive to local issues. Senior staff includes:

  • Three Network Managers, one based in the Kimberley, one in the Pilbara, and one dedicated to the Mid West, Gascoyne and Esperance regions based in Esperance. These Managers will take responsibility for detailed technical issues, manage supply reliability, and liaise with local stakeholders.
  • Six Senior Networks Officers based in Broome, Kununurra, Carnarvon, Esperance, Karratha and Port Hedland, who will be responsible for local network performance. Six new customer service staff are also located in these offices.
