Horizon Power provides eligible seniors and concession card holders with dependent children a rebate equivalent to the cost of 200 kWh of electricity per applicable month, to offset the electricity costs associated with operating an air conditioner.

This rebate applies for a specified number of months each year depending on where you live in the State.

To be eligible for the Air Conditioning Rebate, you must:

  • live in areas of the State that experience prolonged periods of heat. The rebate applies to areas which are north of the 26th Parallel and/or north of the 50 Day Relative Strain Index line; and
  • have dependant children and be a holder of a Centrelink Health Care Card, a Pensioner Concession Card or a Veterans Affairs Gold Card; or
  • have a valid Western Australian Seniors Card and either a Pensioner Concession Card or a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card.

If you wish to apply for this rebate, please fill out the Seniors' Air Conditioning Rebate Application Form or the standard Air Conditioning Rebate Application Form or telephone us on 1800 267 926.

Hardship Utility Grant

Customers experiencing financial hardship may be eligible for assistance through the Hardship Utilities Grant Scheme. This scheme assists people in financial hardship to help pay their utility bills and avoid utility disconnection. To find out if you may be eligible for this scheme, please telephone Horizon Power on 1800 267 926.

Life Support Equipment Electricity Subsidy Scheme

The Life Support Equipment Electricity Subsidy Scheme provides assistance to financially disadvantaged persons to help cover electricity costs associated with operating life support equipment at home. The Scheme is aimed at people who are dependent on specified life support equipment used in their homes under specialist medical advice and are holders of concession cards that are means tested.

Further information on this subsidy, administered by the Office of State Revenue, is available at the Department of Treasury and Finance website.

Thermoregulatory Dysfunction Energy Subsidy Scheme

The State Government has introduced a new power bill subsidy for West Australians who suffer from chronic medical conditions which prevents them from controlling their own body temperature. This subsidy helps pay for domestic heating or cooling systems. The annual subsidy is enough to pay for the operation of a room-sized reverse cycle air-conditioner for six hours every day of the year. The Office of State Revenue administers the scheme. Application forms, medical guidelines and additional information are available here.
